Artist Spotlights: David P. Bacharach and Bounkhong Signavong

David P. Bacharach

Former dentist and professor of Oral Medicine and Physiology, David P. Bacharach became a full-time metal artist over three decades ago. He is the recipient of numerous awards and honors, and is also the co-author of the book “Craftspeople: In Their Own Words.” He is an ACE veteran, having exhibited at the show since its inception over thirty years ago. David uses only repurposed/reclaimed materials for his work, as well as environmentally-safe finishes, as he is an environmental activist. His metalwork features abstract sculptures of birds and horses, as well as other endangered species of flora and fauna.

Bounkhong Signavong

Bounkhong Signavong is a self-trained artist in the crafts of weaving and patterning. With the help of family members, as well as a formal education at the Fashion Institute in Bangkok, Thailand, Bounkhong’s work has been featured in many nationally televised fashion shows. He once even had Robin Williams as a client! Bounkhong’s work consists of one-of-a-kind textiles made from naturally died silk and cotton and hand-woven on a traditional-style loom. The resulting fabrics are used to create shawls, scarves, and other accessories, as well as shirts, jackets, and coats.
