Robert Patterson
Milton, GA

My current woodwork is about the refinement and definition of simple forms. The basic shapes are established in the visual lexicon, meaning I can move on to the delineation and refinement of the shape and its surface. I work on them as quiet objects, their presentation is restrained, and their presence is solid and averse to theatrics. In this work, the elliptical and circular containers imply an inevitability of completion, as well as an ability to contain surface incident without overarching formal pictorial concerns. My work is in the grounding of the object, the suppression of allusion outside of the edges. The mingling of my drawing and painting with given wood forms is the result.
