Hey, all! I know of an event that’s bound to excite you! We are pleased to share a wonderful new exhibition taking place as a prelude to this year’s American Craft Exposition (ACE) – “The Art of Craft: Works from NorthShore University HealthSystem’s Collection of Fine American Craft.” From August 5 through August 25, the galleries of the Evanston Art Center (EAC) will host the works of master craft artisans, showcasing 20 years of Purchase Awards from ACE.
The works are from the collection of NorthShore University HealthSystem (NorthShore) and are on display yearly at its four hospitals (Evanston Hospital, Glenbrook Hospital, Highland Park Hospital and Skokie Hospital). This will be the first time the entire collection is brought togetherand will be a rare opportunity for art enthusiasts to see 39 of the country’s leading craft artists, each of whom have appeared at ACE throughout its 29 years.
Free and open to the public, the exhibition will be held at the Evanston Art Center, 2603 Sheridan Road. The exhibition will kick off with a lecture by Master Woodturner Michael Mode, known for exposing color, iridescence and beauty of wood, along with displaying grace balance and proportion in completed pieces, at the Mary and Leigh Block Museum of Art at Northwestern University on Sunday, August 4. This collaborative effort between the Block Museum, EAC, ACE and NorthShore is specially designed to increase awareness and education of fine craft.
I hope you will join us at this exciting, one-of-a-kind event and of course, at the 29th annual American Craft Expo! Featuring luxury pieces from more than 150 of the country’s most noted craftspeople, this year’s show is sure to be beyond extraordinary. We look forward to seeing you all there!
