The special events schedule for ACE 2015 is all set! Patrons will not want to miss the one-of-a-kind offerings we have planned for this year’s Show – all of which provide an in-depth look into the craft displayed at ACE and the talented artists behind these works of art. Events take place throughout the entire weekend, making each day of the Show unique. Don’t miss your chance to experience fine craft as you’ve never seen it before.
Artist Demonstrations
These free, interactive presentations and demonstrations will highlight the expertise and past experiences of select ACE artists. From glass to ceramics, mixed media and jewelry artists, these craftsmen each have a unique and informative presentation to share with ACE patrons! All presentations will take place in Alsdorf Auditorium and are free with the purchase of a ticket to ACE.
12:00 p.m. Josh Simpson: The Hidden Worlds of Josh Simpson
Glass artist Josh Simpson will give a virtual tour of his glass studio and share details of his “Infinity Project,” his on-going, 40 year quest to hide his work in various, unique locations around the globe.
1:30 p.m. Robert Briscoe: A Crooked Pot
Ceramicist Robert Briscoe will demonstrate how to produce quickly-made, wheel-thrown, functional pottery that is somewhat “off center” at this interactive wheel presentation.
3:00 p.m. Francine T. Ozereko: On the Line
Francine T. Ozereko’s presentation will demonstrate the process of transforming pottery images to a large scale installation, from conception to firing to hanging.
Saturday, September 26
12:00 p.m. Peter Karner – Throwing a Large Platter
Ceramicist Peter Karner will wedge 10 pounds of clay and throw a large lip platter on his wheel right before your eyes!
1:30 p.m. Jennifer McCurdy – On the Road
Jennifer McCurdy’s interactive presentation will trace the course of her illustrious career as a ceramicist from her earliest work to the present, with tales both amusing and cautionary on the life of an artist.
3:00 p.m. Roberta & David Williamson – A Perfect Moment: Portraits, Plants and Possibilities
The Williamson’s presentation will showcase a collection of recent images of their garden, home, and mixed-media jewelry and vignettes taken by a National Geographic photographer who visited their home for an American Craft magazine photo shoot. These shots all tell a story and share a glimpse into their world of producing one-of-a-kind pieces from found and recycled items.
Sunday, September 27
12:00 p.m. Lisa & Scott Cylinder – Remixed & Remastered
The Cylinder’s will talk about their use of deconstructed found objects, specifically musical instruments, and their incorporation of these unique materials into their distinctive jewelry pieces.
1:30 p.m. Terri Logan – Elevating the Stone
Jewelry artist Terri Logan will present a brief history of how a fundamental resource, the stone, connects to her and to our world. She will explain the artistic process which allows her to use the stone and transform its perception, adding humor, grace and environmental awareness into her jewelry pieces.
Glamour in the Garden: A Walking Exhibition of Fashion Wearables at ACE
A glamourous array of wearables from our ACE artists, including clothing, jewelry, handbags and other accessories will be on display during this interactive walking exhibition throughout the Garden during the Show weekend. Stop and chat with our models who can share creative tips for integrating these one-of-a-kind pieces into your wardrobe! All of these beautiful items are, of course, available at the Show for sale.
Emerging Artist Gallery
View the work of eight of America’s most promising new craftsmen throughout the Show weekend. This category is open to those artists who have been practicing their craft for six years or less and have never previously exhibited at ACE.
