Last month, more than 40 ACE committee members gathered at the Chicago Botanic Garden to kick off the 31st season of the American Craft Exposition and discuss plans for the year. ACE Co-Chairs Debbie Kerr and Liz Dauten welcomed local ACE jewelry artist Christy Klug to share with the group her presentation, From Art to Intimacy.
Christy discussed her deeply personal process of creation with the group as well as highlighted some of the technical aspects of her craft. She also touched on how she creates small quantities of handmade, finely-crafted pieces that are intimate, honest and feminine. Christy’s artistic philosophy that we all long for something that is beautiful permeates her work as she creates pieces that will stand the test of time.
Even under winter’s cold blanket, the Chicago Botanic Garden’s idyllic setting lent a stunning backdrop to this year’s kickoff and promises to be even more breathtaking for the three-day expo in September. In 2014, the Chicago Botanic Gardens welcomed more than one million visitors. This is the first year that ACE, which last year raised over $250,000 to support ovarian cancer research at NorthShore University Health System, will call the world-renowned gardens home. The celebration will begin with the Benefit Preview Party on Thursday, September 24 and will run throughout the weekend from Friday, September 25 through Sunday, September 27. We look forward to planning a fabulous 2015 ACE and hope to see you all there!
